A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to my relocation to the Jacksonville, Florida area I had completed my undergraduate degree and was working toward my Masters in Education for Middle School. During this period, I interned at a middle school and had worked as a substitute teacher. I have also worked in management and training.
I believe that each child has a unique learning style or motivation trigger and it is the teacher or tutor's job to find what will encourage the child to learn. I desire to teach children but also to help them learn how to teach themselves.

I like to teach using everyday life experiences and things that are relative to the tutee. One can read MacBeth and other writers from the past and still be motivated to learn. I don't believe in memorization because that is not learning. I want the child to carry his newly learned knowledge well into his future and always have it available in the back of his mind. It should not be forgotten but built upon. It's like building a brick wall, one brick at a time. It does take time but when that final brick is put in place, what a masterpiece!
As a graduate of Jacksonville University, I feel I received an excellent education and want to give back to the community. As a graduate of a prestigious college, I was inspired to change my major from music education to elementary education. This choice was made due to the growing decline in students level of achievement in reading. I have my degree in elementary education and also a special certification from NASA with an emphasis in mathematics and reading. During the last eight years I have tutored students through after school programs,Sylvan Learning, and also through individual tutoring through my home.
