I retired after 35 years of teaching, and I am currently substitute teaching. Through the years I have tutored privately students ranging from kindergarten to high school. I also teach piano. I am experienced teaching vocabulary. I use the reading material and I have the ability to know when a student does not understand a word. I will give them the meaning and synonyms and ask them for synonyms and go over the new words in subsequent sessions. I encourage the use of dictionaries to look up words they do not understand. My teaching style, when engaged in one on one tutoring is very individualized. I used the student's personality and interests to design my teaching style. I love tutoring because I can teach to a student's interests and personality and establish a love for learning in most of my students.
