Experience Summary
Denver Summer Scholars - Lead computer tutor - Taught 3 classes a day with 15 students in each class. I used computer software to tutor students in math and language arts. My students were ESL at Risk students.
Tree of Knowledge - I tutored 15 students during the 2011 to 2012 school year in Language Arts and Math. My students increase their pre tutoring scores by a minimum of 25%. My students included at risk and special ed students in first to fifth grade. This was one on one tutoring. I was able to get to know each student and design the teaching method and material to suit each student's need. I designed separate programs for each student.
Through my attention and caring attitude towards all of my students I was able to establish excellent rapport and a true desire to learn. I had one third grade student who was having significant difficulties with multiplication. I taught him the lattice method. After a few lessons his self confidence increased tremendously. At our last session he told me that he loved math.
Teaching Style
My teaching style, when engaged in one on one tutoring is very individualized. I used the student's personality and interests to design my teaching style. I love tutoring because I can teach to a student's interests and personality and establish a love for learning in most of my students.
My Hobbies
My hobbies are varied. I spend some time being a computer geek. I love to travel and I have been all over the world. I love interacting with various cultures and ways of life. I respect all people and I enjoy cultural differences. I am an expert in American Folk Music and I play guitar and write songs.
