Experience Summary
I am currently a fourth grade elementary school teacher, who has experience teaching grades K-5. Having taught for over 10 years, I enjoy teaching all students in my classrooms, including sped, gifted, and English Language Learners. Having a master's degree in Linguistically Diverse Education has enabled me to specialize in literacy and how both first and second languages are learned and acquired. Therefore, I am able to give extra support to your child in reading comprehension and writing - including grammar, phonics, vocabulary, and test taking skills.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is student centered; differentiation according to each child's unique and special needs is essential to successful growth in academics, confidence, and motivation. I teach specific skills and concepts in small parts so that they are clearly understandable; yet I give students opportunities to use those skills in a larger context (such as using a specific skill within a new text, real-life problem, or a new problem solving situation). I know that students learn better when they enjoy learning and feel successful. Therefore, I use positive teaching strategies and incorporate fun learning games that cover content, skills, and critical thinking skills. Having taught elementary students for over 10 years has given me invaluable insights into student learning, researched-credible teaching and assessment strategies, and a commitment to helping each child make progress in a risk-free, positive learning environment.
