I taught debate and public speaking at Carroll College from 2000 until 2002 and briefly assisted the University of Montana debate program during the 2003 academic year. Both positions required hands on instruction in the basics of rhetorical theory as well as extensive research and writing. A good instuctor is able to separate theory from practice (in any academic discipline) and reassemble them so the student has a broad understanding of both components.
