While I was in college completing my credential I worked after-school programs, and I started teaching K-5th grade as soon as I received my Multiple subject credential. One of the biggest accomplishments was watching of the students who detested writing papers because he did not believe he could do it, grow into a man who is not writing weekly papers confidently. I work through positive behavior supports, humor and style to motivate the student to understand the need to learn the core subject matter in order to proceed through high school. I am excellent at reading the needs of the student and creating lessons that are relevant, interesting and fun. I believe phonics is the basis for learning spelling and reading in the early grades. I believe a strong emphasis on spelling, grammar and comprehension is key to future learning. I approach these subjects from different angles so that it does stay interesting. I believe in bolstering self confidence and yet encourage students to put effort into their lessons. I have taught grades 3 and six as part of my internship in Messina, New York. I tutored third grade children in remedial reading as a private business.
