My comments on tutoring Special Education : I have a Bachelors (BA) degree in Child Education with my Masters degree (MA) in Special Needs Education. For the past three years I have worked as an SEN teacher working with both Autistic and Epileptic people both in school and and as a private tutor / carer in their homes.

Whether working in a classroom or one-on-one at home I treat my pupil as a friend and confidant working with him/her to gain the pupils confidence and trust as the building block for their educational needs. I am an outgoing person and try to to make learning as fun as can be but with a strict approach to achieving goals. I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.
I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.

I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school.
