My comments on tutoring Piano : I have played piano for over 40 years and have been a piano teacher for over 25 years. I studied classical piano but am comfortable with church music, broadway, pop, soft rock, and country and some jazz standards as well. I love teaching beginners and intermediate students and can take students to high level classical pieces. Some of my students started at the age of 3 and are still with me a few years later. I am consistent, and understanding, patient and warm. I use excellent methods and teach theory, technique,Hanon, performance, scales, and music for special occasions.

*Any child can learn. Find out what the gems are in each child and help to polish them. I like to work with private students. Reach the child where he is. Know their personality. My comments on tutoring Piano : I can teach beginning piano to a level of playing church hymns with standard arrangements.

I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. Since 2nd grade, when my teacher sat me next to a 10-year old boy with Cerebral Palsy, it seems I have been called upon to instruct others. I tutored our high school rockstar drummer in French so he could graduate. In college I taught 3- and 4-year olds, learning as much from them, as about them. In the Army, as an instructor and Executive Officer, those child development principles and skills were frequently handy and surprisingly adaptive with young adults, and a few senior cadre. After graduating from college with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I taught a year of Sp. Ed.,at the elementary level. I returned to school and earned my M.A. in Psychology.
