I believe that students learn best in an environment that promotes encouragement and relational interaction with their tutors. While I believe in creating a stress free, fun environment, I believe in helping students set their own rigorous goals. I have been teaching piano and bass guitar to students for almost 10 years. I am a 4.0 student who has mastered the ability to study efficiently. In 2010, I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of New Mexico where I was asked to teach 2 undergraduate classes in communication. However, I rejected this position as I accepted a Master's program at a different University, but underwent the training required for TA's at UNM.

Most of my experience comes from substitute teaching. I have been a certified local substitute teacher since September of 2010. I have taught everything from math and science to physical education and music while working as a local substitute teacher. I was able to provide additional service by mentoring individuals who were struggling with material in lessons and assignments. I have an unparalleled amount of patience.

My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. In my college career, I found myself teaching people everything from music to proper uses of tense/grammar. It was there that i learned that you really only learn a small fraction of what you need to help you in life in the classroom. The rest must be learned on your own or with some one-on-one counseling. My comments on tutoring Piano : I enjoy playing the piano and singing and have taken lessons since I was 7.

I am a "kid-at-heart" who has a passion for helping other learn and succeed. I enjoy foreign languages and I want to share my enthusiasm with others. A Little Bit About Me...

The process is just as important as the product. If a student can come up with the correct answer, but he or she has no idea how or why it is correct or how they got it, I feel like their learning is incomplete. Especially in Math, but also in many other subjects, concepts build upon each other. For this reason, I like to explain not just *how* to get there, but also *why* we got that answer; then students have a firmer foundation for the trickier concepts. I love seeing the lightbulb "go on," when kids finally "get it."
