A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a non-traditional student has payed huge dividends not only for me, but for those I've helped during my time as a T.A. and tutor. Ten years after I finished high school I decided to begin my collegiate career. The process of learning, re-learning and brushing up on the hard sciences and mathematics has proved to provide a good background from which to explain and help others in those areas. My pursuit (and recent success) of becoming a student doctor has also allowed me to become a well rounded tutor. The experience of studying for the MCAT served to enable me to learn techniques and methods for success in stressful testing situations but also to truly absorb material, versus the temporary ability to recall information.

A Little Bit About Me...

I obtained a BA from CU at Boulder in 2004 in Psychology and Communications and I am now currently one year away from attending medical school. I have taken all the science courses required to get into medical school and have been tutored in many of them as a supplemental form of education. In my time being tutored many other students realized how much more knowledge of the subject i had gained above them that they in turn recruited me to tutor them. I have been doing that for approximately six years.
I am a Visual learner/teacher, I feel it is much easier to learn when being able to visualize what is happening. Many of the sciences happen at such a microscopic level that it may be hard to comprehend what is actually happening so with larger visual aides I believe learning is much easier and less stressful.

For instance, if somebody is having trouble grasping qualitative concepts but has a strong mathematical background, employing a quantitative approach to demonstrate the concept would be useful. During my undergraduate career, I was privileged to enroll into the Physiology department in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona is one of 10 schools throughout the country that offer the physiology major to undergraduates. My BS degree is unique, and allowed me to continue to purse a part of medicine I have a strong passion for. I was able to complete a course in Muscle Biology, where we discussed everything from current muscle research to advancements in muscle technology.
