I'm a strong amateur/club-level player, no tournament experience but I have a good grasp of general principles and tactics, along with a decent grasp of positional play and general opening knowledge (more knowledge in the systems I generally play, obviously.) I'm able to instruct/coach beginning/intermediate players. Notice also that my rate is half the rate of other chess coaches. I'm of the belief that you don't need a titled player tutoring you to improve your chess, hiring one would be a waste of money. I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images.
