Experience Summary
Tutoring students is a big part of teaching. I have always tutored students in my classes and anyone who has asked for my help. I have tutored students on their writing, reading and basic math skills. Being a Special Education teacher has afforded me many opportunities to tutor. During school time and after school. If I had to pin point a specialty I would say listening and making students feel at ease right where they are academically. Showing them the educational path that will add to their knowledge and enrich it.
Teaching Style
Striving to make the student feel comfortable is part of my basic repertoire of teaching strategies. I know that when a student does not succeed in a typical classroom environment it is easy for the student to feel negative about learning. Our society is based on the 'cookie cutter' ideology one size fits all. So when I tutor I strive for the student to feel comfortable first. Then I observe the students way of learning and I tailor my style to fit the student. Each student has one to two modalities that they excel in when learning something new - my job is to discover which modalities best serves the student's style of learning.
