I strongly believe in allowing the student to learn through their own will and with their own techniques, I try to just be the vessel that allows them to get to this point. I have worked in Montessori type schools where learning is a self-discovery and a journey. I try to find a way to make the subject interesting in a specific way for the student to allow them to want to learn, and getting excited about succeeding. I studied Art History at Florida State University, which required a number of essay and extensive seminar classes, which taught me different ways to complete 10-20 page papers. I have a M.ED in Educational Psychology with experience teaching and tutoring children K-5. I received my B.A. in English from Appalachian State University where I also received training in education. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, I spent 8 months working at a wilderness therapy program. At this school I taught students life skills in a wilderness setting. After leaving this school, I spent the summer teaching art at a small summer camp. This past year I worked at a boarding school, located in Western North Carolina. At this school I worked with 15 and 16 year olds, tutoring and helping them with their school work and teaching week-end and extracurricular activities. This past fall I worked at a non-profit organization. I worked at an Anne Frank/Holocaust exhibit giving tours to 6th-12th grade students. Through the experience of pursuing my degree at Boston University, I was exposed to many different styles of learning and teaching due to my interdisciplinary concentration in Latin American Studies.
