I am additionally well versed in the Social Sciences, including History, Government, Sociology, Anthropology, and Psychology. I am currently a graduate student in the field of Community Health, Medical Anthropology, and Ethnobotany. I have tutored, mentored, and taught for the past 9 years through non-profits, public charter schools, and outdoor education centers.
Teaching Style
I am a strong proponent of self-directed learning. The best retention of material and new skills comes when a student finds the subject engaging and is able to relate the subject to their own experiences, passions, and goals. All people learn differently; therefore, it is helpful when a student is able to learn particular methods and study skills that will continue to benefit their future learning. I love asking questions that allow a young person to reach their own conclusions. As a child, I felt very much empowered when teachers and mentors supported my own explorations and created the spaces for me to learn in my own way.
