Experience Summary
The last six years I have taught using a most effective multi-sensory method of instruction for children with language-based differences, both as a full-time teacher and a part-time tutor.
I possess excellent communication, computer, organizational, and teaching skills.
I’ve taught in a variety of situations from elementary to high school levels in both private and public school settings. I have tutored in an after-school reading clinic, as well as in home settings. I've held social work positions working with children considered “at risk,” educationally and/or behaviorally.
Teaching Style
The visual-auditory-kinesthetic or VAK method of instruction is a hands-on, child-involved method that reaches students with all types of learning needs. It is my primary teaching strategy utilized.
I find it important to match reading material,(utilizing both student ability and interest levels,)to promote maximum reading success.
I offer flexibility and much enthusiasm for each subject that I teach. I am a life long learner, as conveyed in countless ways to my students.
I'm caring, kind, patient and understand my students' needs and abilities. I find it imperative to not only applaud my students' strengths but also to encourage the "weaker" skills that they possess.
I have good rapport with students and their families as well.
