Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs of the student and not to what I am most relaxed with. I have personally taught several tactile students who had to have something in their hands or they could not grasp the concepts. Other times I've instructed students in strong visual methods incorporating drawings, artwork and short videos. It is my considered opinion that there are many styles of teaching that can work effectively with students. Generally, I feel that it is best to adapt the style of teaching to the personality, interest, and capability of the student. My preference is working with teens and young adults, with whom I find that a style that guides them to find the answers for themselves is of greatest advantage. To do this, I tend to patiently guide students with a series of questions, only "jumping in" with information when they begin to appear to have reached a point of frustrated impasse.
