I always attempt to explain the beauty of mathematics to my students in hopes that they will develop the same admiration of the logic and order of mathematics and science. My tutoring will generally involve a brief explanation of theory and background, followed by one or two fully worked examples (if applicable). Then exercise problems or homework questions will be worked by the student. I encourage students to memorize the procedure of a solution. However, I always ensure that the student understands why steps are being taken in a given solution, and is not simply blindly following a solution procedure. I attended a liberal arts college to give myself a totality of learned and a well rounded education. I majored in Music performance with a minor in math. In addition I worked in the biology labs gaining experience in the sciences. I graduated with honors ( cum Laude)
My teaching style is to guide the student to find the answers for himself rather than outright giving it away. I try to teach the method of discovery and critical thinking the allows the student to excel. A Little Bit About Me...

Although it took me 15 years to obtain my B.S. in Business Management, I do not view that as a disadvantage. My travels with my military husband enriched my education by enabling me to experience different cultures, and by giving me the opportunity to meet, live among, and work with people of many different backgrounds. I have worked in the Los Alamos school system for the last two years as a Special Education Instructional Assistant, grades 3 through 6, helping children with many types of learning challenges improve their reading, writing, spelling, math, and organizational and social skills. As an Associate Research Professor at Duke University I conducted research on the health of the elderly population and the genetic background to age-related diseases. I am well published, always serving as my own statistician. The background to most common disorders in adults is complex involving multiple genes, thus I used advanced fuzzy latent class analysis to identify high and low risk sets of gene variants and to define the level of risk for individuals. I have collaborated with graduate students and taught genetcs to medical students. As a co-founder and the scientific director of Matrix Genomics, Inc.
