For example, one day I overheard my son's Kindergarten teacher say she would have to hold back one of the students from entering first grade because the child could not count to ten or say the alphabet. I asked this teacher if I could be a volunteer tutor for this child an hour once a week over the remaining three months of the school year to see if I could help turn the situation around.
