Tutoring for Life

I'm 24 and mother of a 1 year old (he may be with me while tutoring). I'm laid back and believe there is a natural process that must take place for us to learn and absorb new material. Not just memorize it for a test. However, test preparation is also one of my specialties which does involve more repetition and hands on useage. This could include parent approved trips. Engaging with the student and getting them interested in the subject is of the utmost importance. If they do not care, they will not do well. Which is why making the student attracted to the subject is my first step. Once engaged, we can have fun with it. I also believe the most successful student is a hands-on student. That is why I will work with the student step-by-step until they can do it on their own.
In high school I was a student-tutor. I spent three summers in Vacation Bible School at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina, where I got plenty of experience dealing with children. In the summer time during my undergraduate career I worked as a camp counselor and coach in Colorado for children from the ages of 6-18. After completion of my BA I coached at my alma-mater. From there I decided to pursue my graduate education and took a scholarship in the althetic department at the University of Arkansas where I became an academic advisor for the football team for 4 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Clemson University, with a BA in Biological Sciences. I have always enjoyed biology since my first AP class my Junior year of high school. After college graduation I worked for six months in a cancer research lab, which gave me the knowledge of "real life" science and how that effects our lives I have worked as an after school and summer camp counselor which has helped me learn how to relate to them, and teach them material they are learning in school.
I love that look that you get from a child who gets what you are teaching them. When the light bulb turns on, and you know that they understand the process. That's what makes it all worth it.
