Tutoring for Life

I'm 24 and mother of a 1 year old (he may be with me while tutoring). I'm laid back and believe there is a natural process that must take place for us to learn and absorb new material. Not just memorize it for a test. However, test preparation is also one of my specialties which does involve more repetition and hands on useage. This could include parent approved trips. I am an elementary school teacher in the Northern Virginia area and have been tutoring students for the past 2 years. I love my job and would not change it for the world. Working with kids every day is something that I not only enjoy, but helps me as well. I learn something new every day. Being a teacher has taught me that all students learn in a different way and you have to address the needs of individual children.

In high school I was a student-tutor. I spent three summers in Vacation Bible School at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina, where I got plenty of experience dealing with children. I am currently enrolled at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where I am majoring in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies. I am a hopeful High School teacher.
Engaging with the student and getting them interested in the subject is of the utmost importance. If they do not care, they will not do well. I am a graduate of Clemson University, with a BA in Biological Sciences. I have always enjoyed biology since my first AP class my Junior year of high school. After college graduation I worked for six months in a cancer research lab, which gave me the knowledge of "real life" science and how that effects our lives I have worked as an after school and summer camp counselor which has helped me learn how to relate to them, and teach them material they are learning in school.
