In tutoring, it is best to locate where the student is having trouble, and start at that point, since math builds on itself. I always begin by working 1 or 2 examples of a certain type of problem. Then, when the student is ready, let him/her work a similar problem. When the student has mastered that concept, we move on to the next type of problem.

I am very adaptive to students learning style. I usually spend the first ten minutes of our first meeting figuring out what the student is struggling with and how to best meet their needs. I try to teach students more how to think analytical more so then just solving problems because it is more beneficial to the student. I feel that if I can teach the student how to read theorems, understand concepts, then problems just become easy at that point.

After receiving a BS in Education from Illinois State University in 1997, I began teaching all subjects in grades K - 8 in the greater Chicago area over the course of 6 years (Fall 1998 - Spring 2005).
