Composition is one of my top subjects! As the child of a novelist, there was an extremely heavy emphasis on composition in my education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I studied Languages for four years at University. I was about to get a degree in English and Portuguese when I moved to the US. I taught for one year. I worked in 3 different schools, in all of them, the subject was English. I have no experience teaching Portuguese outside of college, but I am planning to find students to change that. My instructional experience includes over 230 credit hours of composition and language arts instruction, including creative writing, literary analysis and Shakespeare. My comments on tutoring Composition : With a 50 year background in the administrative field, I am a super expert in tutoring/teaching English Composition.

I have over of 30 years of progressive experience in tutoring young children in the elementary years of education in all subject matter areas. My specialty is literacy and reading, but I am also adept in teaching all of the math curricula as well. My comments on tutoring Composition : I took ENG 111 and 112, college english classes, in high school as a duel enrollment class. I also took survey of American literature my first semester of college. In all three classes I wrote many papers and got good grades on all of them. I also had to write a 25 page term paper and received an A on the paper. I feel that I have very good and experienced writing composition skills. I receieved and A in all three classes.

What I try to do first is get the student to work out the problem, and as they are doing that I will work the problem as well. We will go over our answers together so I have a chance to explain the problem to the student. I believe that repitition and practice makes perfect as long as you have someone to explain it along the way. I will thoroughly explain the problem to the student if they don't understand it. By the end I would hope that the student could then explain how to do the problem to me.
I am now a sophomore at Germanna Community College. I have taken Algebra, Biology, English, Contemporary Mathematics, and various psychology courses.
