My name is Barbara M. I was born in Hamburg, Germany and raised in Japan. I have been tutoring for the past six years in Cape Coral, Florida. I grew up in Japan and came to the USA after I met my husband. Having a Japanese mother and German father meant I was surrounded by both languages, becoming fluent in both. I use the hands-on technique which combines written material as well as visual teaching (touch, feel, hear, and see). Music, CD's and worksheets are provided and create a trustworthy, fun, and educational environment.
I was an English Instructor in an elementary school in Germany. Up to 12 children (2nd Grade, ages 8-9 years). I will adjust to individual needs. Materials are used what students have or i can use my materials. Each lesson is based on the needs of each students.
Since the age of 15 i have tutored in Japan to Japanese people German or English and to foreigners Japanese on and off. My influence of teaching came from my mother who taught privately and who was the first Japanese teacher at American school in Singapore. With degrees from one of the nations top universities, I have many experiences working with students. I have worked with students through Jumpstart (an AmeriCorps program), as a youth camp specialist, and as a after school program coordinator at an elementary school in Naples. I am currently working on a graduate degree in School Counseling. I believe that helping youth succeed to be their best is very important and must be a priority.
It is important for all children to have an equal opportunity to learn. This means that I must teach in various styles or to multiple intelligences so that each student is able to understand materials taught. In the appropriate environment and with appropriate materials, it is possible that each child can be a success, given that the teacher understands that not all students learn in the same manner.
