My comments on tutoring Musical : I'm willing to teach Music Theory.

I have many volunteer hours stacked up working with groups of children, but I would love to teach on a more personal basis to build my one-on-one skills. I'm currently an education major at Colorado State University, and while music is my emphasis, I was always very studious in school and am well-versed in other subjects. I have received numerous academic and artistic awards, some (such as being named a Texas Music Scholar) encompass both.
For me, teaching isn't about pounding new material into their head, it's about helping them understand the material they're given and actually having fun learning. That's why my teaching style is all about fun and retention.

I graduated from the University of Wyoming within 3 1/2 years and student taught in first grade. Since then, I have been teaching in several preschool programs and spent part of one year as a long term substitute for a Title 1 program. This position enabled me to spend extra time and gain experience in the Guided Reading program.
As I think of my life without teaching, I cannot imagine what else I would be doing. I believe that children learn in a variety of ways. Some through listening, some through reading or watching, and some through doing. My goal is to find the way that works for each child and use that method to help them on their way to reaching their full potential.

I utilize several different teaching strategies and attempt to pull strengths from the youth and work with positives. I give examples and direct youth in the direction of the correct answers. I utilize reading and instructing out loud to the class, writing on the board for further and clearer instructions and information, using real life ideas and situations to help explain the lesson (ex. of using microwave and cooking to help explain temperature and gave reminders at the end of class for work completion, assignments and expectations. I am firm with some basic expectations and allow for some freedoms that seem to benefit the flow of the class and avoid power struggles and the potential for additional problems.
