For Math/Sciences I generally use example problems to help learn a core concept then use an application style problem to help the student solidify their understanding, rather than just memorize the process. With respect to tutoring, I worked during the summer of 2009 as a teachers assistant for a summer-school program known as Korea Poly. The students were 3-6th graders and required assistance in completing homework and practicing and refining their English writing and speaking skills. Math was never an issue for me, I was always ahead of the curve in my math scores, and when I got the chance to relate that math ability to economics, it all made sense. Economics is second-nature to me. Economics puts calculus into real-world situations. Breezed through it in high school and first couple years of college, realized it would be an excellent thing for me to major in. Economics is all about logic, and being a logical person, economics always came easy. When you think logically, you are thinking economically. In economic problems, you always assume the agents in the problem will act in their best interest.

My senior year I was able to take twelve math credits, nine of which were graduate credit, and this helped me learn how important teamwork and study skills are for succeeding and reaching my own personal educational goals. I have also helped children with disabilities, mental and physical, with school work and study skills and have helped children with after school projects.

With other students I have found that they need me to hold their hand, so to speak, during the whole process. When that is the case I make sure that the student does not feel inadequate by having me walk them through each assignment.
