As an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to work as a tutor in the Writing Center of Andrews University. I assisted both undergraduate and graduate students and community members with various essays and papers, concentrating on grammatical correctness and content development. I also worked as the Ceramics Director at Camp Au Sable Youth Camp in Grayling, MI, teaching kids, teenagers and adult campers ceramics and managing the ceramics department. I love working with kids and work as a counselor for 6th through 8th grade students at my local church. Currently I am working towards my masters, which has refined my attention to detail and given me a variety of experiences with different personalities. My teaching style is one of friendly leadership. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining the details helps them achieve the accomplishment of learning without making them feel as if they were just instructed how to do it. Helping a student learn is more than just teaching them a lesson in math, science, or English; it’s about being someone that they can look up to as a role model, being someone that they can learn from in more than just an academic manner, and being someone who is there for them when they need something.
