Experience Summary
As an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to work as a tutor in the Writing Center of Andrews University. I assisted both undergraduate and graduate students and community members with various essays and papers, concentrating on grammatical correctness and content development. I also worked as the Ceramics Director at Camp Au Sable Youth Camp in Grayling, MI, teaching kids, teenagers and adult campers ceramics and managing the ceramics department. I love working with kids and work as a counselor for 6th through 8th grade students at my local church. Currently I am working towards my masters, which has refined my attention to detail and given me a variety of experiences with different personalities.
Teaching Style
My teaching style approaches the learner with patience and creativity. As an art and writing student, I realize that many kids learn differently, and I try to approach each situation as a unique situation. As a writing consultant what I loved hearing about was when students became more confident and improved to the point of independence. Because of this my teaching style involves breaking down the writing process into a format that is understandable for the student and using the foundations of their learning. As a student myself, I appreciate and respond best to constructive criticism, and so I have learned to first praise, and then improve.
