I took the ACT 7 years ago and scored a 36 in the math section. I have helped others over the years prepare for the math portion, and I enjoy seeing others raise their scores. Once a proper foundation is in place, my strategy involves helping students master mathematical concepts one step at a time. What is sometimes taught in the classroom as a "single step" may in reality be several steps all rolled into one. My approach involves taking these "single steps" and breaking them down so each student can fully understand what is required and why. I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way. I also know that you cannot predict what methods will be best for all people. I prepare extensivesly with sample tests, worksheets, as well as fun learning activities. I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.
