About Me

Experience Summary

My name is Aaron M. and I am currently a math teacher at Mooresville High School. I graduated from Taylor University in 2013 and I have a real passion for teaching. I believe that all students can learn, and I also understand many of the common difficulties students have related to math. Over the past couple of years I have worked individually with many students, and I look forward to helping many more students in the future. I have experience teaching/tutoring the following subjects: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Honors Algebra II, Geometry, Honors Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, AP Calculus, and Finite Mathematics.

Teaching Style

My approach to tutoring is built around my belief that all students can learn. Once a proper foundation is in place, my strategy involves helping students master mathematical concepts one step at a time. What is sometimes taught in the classroom as a "single step" may in reality be several steps all rolled into one. My approach involves taking these "single steps" and breaking them down so each student can fully understand what is required and why. As students better understand the reasons they are doing the things they are doing they will feel successful and that builds confidence. My goal is to help all of my students realize their own potential in mathematics and beyond

My Hobbies

I enjoy football, basketball, ping pong, mathematics, chess, reading, learning about teaching strategies, and playing with my puppy.

Subject Commentary

ACT Proficiency: Expert
I took the ACT 7 years ago and scored a 36 in the math section. I have helped others over the years prepare for the math portion, and I enjoy seeing others raise their scores. If you need help with the ACT (math), let me know!
Algebra Proficiency: Expert
I am currently teaching three Algebra I courses and have tutored several students over the past few years in this content area. I can break this topic down into its most basic form!
Algebra I This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I am currently teaching three Algebra I courses and have tutored several students over the past few years in this content area. I can break this topic down into its most basic form!
Algebra II Proficiency: Experienced
There is a large jump from Algebra I to Algebra II and I help students make that jump through making connections to things they have already learned. This is a difficult subject that requires time and energy for success.
Calculus I This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
Last year I taught AP Calculus and through college I took four different Calculus courses. Whether you are studying for the AP test or trying to receive college credit, I can prepare you for success.
Geometry This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I am currently teaching two Geometry courses, and I have witnessed firsthand the difficulties this course presents. If proofs, theorems, and postulates have you confused I am your man!
Pre-Algebra Proficiency: Expert
The skills learned in Pre-Algebra are essential to success at the high school level. A solid Pre-Algebra foundation will pay large dividends when you begin taking Algebra I, Algebra II, etc. and I have experience working with students in this situation.
Pre-Calculus Proficiency: Expert
For those preparing to take Calculus at the high school or college level, this course is a must. Unfortunately, many of the concepts are theoretical in nature and difficult to visualize. I can help make sense of this preparation course and prepare you for success at the next level.
Trigonometry Proficiency: Experienced
Many times this is essentially a Pre-Calculus course with an emphasis on Trig. I can help fill in any gaps you may have and prepare you for success in whatever your next course may be.
