Experienced. Effective. The logical choice.

As a tutor of student athletes at Indiana University, I tutored students from all walks of life. I began by tutoring Biology and Spanish but the need for tutors in English, Writing, Chemistry and Statistics soon arose and I stepped up to fill those positions. Using previous knowledge from AP classes in high school, as well as recent knowledge gained from my classes, I was able to successfully convey new information in easy to understand and applicable terms to these students. This past year I tutored high school math, English and Genetics.
I have always enjoyed teaching others sharing my love of learning. I find it most effective to use a variety of methods to successfully teach information. I have been involved every year since 1975 in the work of an educator, mostly for pay, but occasionally as a volunteer, either community- or faith-based, in three states and two foreign countries. Leadership was usually demonstrated in teaching for proprietory institutions in curriculum development and in the processes of actual recruitment. In fifth-grade teaching of English language learners, my class for two semesters won the highest attendance record for 3rd-5th graders in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Securing a BS in Political Science was a process that allowed me to examine a comprehensive body of knowledge that deals with the structure of our country, our belief systems, and our government. I volunteer for HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) every year. This program pushes facilitation, which is what I strive to do. I like to try to facilitate and push my students to ask questions and talk to me as a peer. I always try to give at least three compliments to every criticism because students are often too hard on themselves. For some reason, most of the students I have worked with have had an English teacher along the line who has made them feel "stupid." It is amazing what boosting confidence can do!
