Throughout high school, I had trouble trying to figure out what I wanted to do when I graduated. I took many classes that ranged from Weight Training to Biology. I took many Art classes in which I excelled at. I then took some Computer Technology classes and I loved it. So I figured I would put the two together and took Graphic Design classes. I loved it. I am very competent in using all sorts of Graphic Design programs. I got my first guitar around 8 years ago and just picked it up and learned it. I have been learning ever since. I personally, have taught many people the basics of guitar and gave them the tools to excel in music.

I love teaching & sharing new experiences in a creative way!

I was a natural born musician, started playing guitar at the age of 2. Later switched to piano and took formal lessons for 7 years. I have composed scores for several plays and small projects. I still compose music to this day. I gained an interest in French when I was in middle school. From there, I learned it very quickly and continued to build on it through making French films and going on a biking excursion in France. Mon voyage était formidable et j'ai appris beaucoup!

An in-depth education in Music Composition.

My teaching style consist of using a variety of learning technique and atmospheres. It is a good idea to study the habits and styles of other composers, classical and modern to get an idea of how that compares to the student's style. Writing or composing sample songs based on someone else's style is a good idea, such as Beethoven, or David Newman, etc. Using theory practice is useful, but doesn't necessarily define a composer. Things such as chord structures, tonalities, repetition, and familiarity will be studied. We can work on solo instruments, or orchestrations of any size. Becoming familiar with certain techniques of composition will become very useful for the student, as he/she learns to express him/herself through music.

A proverb I once heard best describes my teaching philosophy: "Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I become." Thus, my goal as a tutor is to help students discover for themselves. That way learning becomes not only more engaging, but more lasting as well.
After graduating from Utah State, I taught 2nd grade for a year at a charter school. It was a good experience, but I wanted the chance to work with students in a variety of settings. During the past school year, I was hired as the Spanish Specialist at another charter school which has been another great experience. I prefer sitting at the student's elbow, with the assigned work in between us, focusing on it together. I talk about "it" rather than "you" to avoid making the student self-conscious. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it. When there is significant improvement, I move on to the next area of weakness. Pointing out all of a student's mistakes and weaknesses at once drains morale, and that is counterproductive. Working on one area at a time keeps the student from being overwhelmed. I like to have the student read out loud to me, so that we can both see what needs improvement.
