An in-depth education in Music Composition.

Since earning my Bachelors Degree from the University of Utah in Music Composition I have produced a Christmas album of piano arrangements, and original songs. I prefer sitting at the student's elbow, with the assigned work in between us, focusing on it together. I talk about "it" rather than "you" to avoid making the student self-conscious. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it. When there is significant improvement, I move on to the next area of weakness. Pointing out all of a student's mistakes and weaknesses at once drains morale, and that is counterproductive. I have a very solid math background, so I know what concepts students should be learning at their age/level. Therefore, if the students don't have material prepared that they would like to study with me, I can quickly compose exercises for them to do. I ask a lot of questions and try to get the students to figure out the solutions themselves. When they get stuck I give subtle hints until the light bulb goes off.
