Writing is one of my top subjects!

I am a hands on teacher, probably because I am a hands on learner. I find it difficult to learn when an instructor is solely lecturing. I believe that constant practice and hands on lessons are the most effective ways of learning.
I have an incredible passion for teaching. I am currently in the process of getting my Bachelors in Secondary Education with a focus in English. I have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language and thoroughly enjoy teaching others composition, spelling, creative writing, reading, vocabulary, etc. I do not have much experience yet in a classroom setting but have volunteered at a middle school while getting my Associates degree. I helped a teacher at a middle school to teach students that were having difficulty in various subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent much of my time as an undergraduate mentoring underclassmen at ASU, not just to better understand their economics and political science classes, but also how to be a better, well-rounded students. As a Russian linguist I am qualified in a number of English linguistics subjects as well. Continuing that theme, I tutored my peers at law school in property, administrative and contracts law. I’ve been found to relate to well to fellow students and those younger than me. A Little Bit About Me...

My superior at Yavapai College who monitored my classes in order to write his evaluation, remarked once that "...you have the patience of an angel." I don't know whether this is entirely correct since I haven't had a personal encounter with such a heavenly body, but I consider myself to be a kind and patient instructor who also loves for her students to learn. Since each child/adult learns in a different way, I believe that it is important to pay attention to individual learning styles. I am creative, resourceful, and constructive. A Little Bit About Me...

I love being with and teaching children, especially when it comes to reading and books. I find it highly gratifying to see the joy that comes with learning to love to read and the subsequent doors of learning that open as a result. Though kids have different learning styles, I believe that books and the ability to read are a universal passion that transcends all backgrounds and abilities. I have found that there is nothing so rewarding as that moment when a subject 'clicks' for a student. By staying positive and adaptive I believe it is possible to guide students to finding solutions on their own. I work at finding new ways to approach common stumbling blocks and try to show students how applicable math is to everyday life. Students learn with a variety of learning methods. Some students are more kinetic, while others are more auditory or visual. I think it is important for students to develop self- esteem and see themselves succeeding, and that is what I work on first including staying on task. I have always used Madeline Hunters guidelines for successful lesson plans, which includes using manipulatives to assist students in understanding concepts. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them.
