I have tutored various students ranging from elementary, junior high to college undergraduates in Italian (my mother tongue) and French. I am very passionate about the student's interest in learning another language (I speak 4 languages) and honor their interest by offering a really caring approach: learning a foreign language widens perspectives and knowledge. I care about giving students the best for their learning, helping them to identify ways to continue their learning experience even when the lesson is over; supplying them with resources that may assist them better: each student is unique about the reason they started this 'journey' and I consider this reason very important as far as directing the lessons in a certain way. For parents: I have taught kids as little as 6 years accomplishing wonderful results. Kids are natural learners. Some of them have great capabilities ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I think the teaching job is made of passion, guiding students through learning process and presenting all materials they need. Chemistry is essential in my life and I believe everyone could have interest for science. I encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for students, stimulating conversation about concepts being presented and organizing material in a way that makes it easiest to understand. I believe that respect for my students is one of the most important things. One of the most important concepts I hope to impart to students that learning is a process that never ends.

I am a firm believer in learning the basics in foreign language. You must first build a foundation on which to place additional building blocks of knowledge. I use a commercial grammar text and workbook, which I select according to the needs and age of the specific student. We work through grammar and exercises with cultural lessons included. I include practice in conversation and composition as well. We work on any class-related material and address specific concerns of the student. Although I believe one-on-one teaching to be the most beneficial to the student, I enjoy teaching small groups.

I have always been a lifelong learner, and I see tutoring as an extension of my desire to consistently review and engage with all academic material. The liberal arts education that I received at Scripps College set the standard to appreciate and learn a variety of subjects. I received two bachelor degrees, BA in Art History and BA in French, but also spent considerable time taking math and science courses. My writing skills also significantly developed during this time, and particularly came to full fruition during my graduate work in Art History. For both my BA and MA degrees, I had to produce unique, independently researched theses that were at least 12,000 words in length. Since then, I have delved into the sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, where I completed all necessary pre-medical coursework. I have also been working with special needs children in Philadelphia public ... read more

I like to use a lot of visual supports, use scenarios or puppet shows (for young children) to have interaction in the language. As a native speaker I easily improvise when the student(s) show a specific interest. The culture is also very important to have a better grasp of the language. I always try to show students cultural aspects or differences while teaching.

I enjoy helping people learn something new. I think anyone can do anything they put their mind to. I would allow the student time to get to know me so they would feel comfortable with me. Students sometimes feel too vulnerable to try things when they don't know someone because they do not want to make mistakes. I would let them know that the only way to get better at something is to make mistakes so they can learn from those mistakes by making the appropriate corrections. Confidence is key. Positive work ethics allow me to help and give students the confidence necessary to complete anything put before them.
Graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism has given me the easygoing background to educate others in writing and reading. I am always the person asked by friends and family when they are not sure how to spell a word or if they need something to be proofread. I enjoy read ... read more
