I am a firm believer in learning the basics in foreign language. You must first build a foundation on which to place additional building blocks of knowledge. I use a commercial grammar text and workbook, which I select according to the needs and age of the specific student. We work through grammar and exercises with cultural lessons included. I include practice in conversation and composition as well. We work on any class-related material and address specific concerns of the student. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in History, and spent some time overseas studying music. My BA in History made me into a strong writer and critical thinker. My experience overseas helped my improve my italian skills and also achieve an understanding about other cultures.
