A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired trial lawyer from the State of Maryland. My career as a trial lawyer spanned 26 years and included hundreds of jury and non-jury trials in State and Federal Courts.I am still a member of the Washington D.C. Bar.My writing experience includes hundreds of motions and dozens of briefs.I have taught some college level courses in the Criminal Justice area. I taught ESL in South Korea for two months. I have taught Reading and Essay writing for a year. I also teach ACT Test preparation for these subjects At present I am tutoring several students.

I started my college experience at Adams State College in the Education department. During my initial years in college, I completed multiple teaching courses including: Intro to Education, Teaching Exceptional Students in a Regular Classroom, and Child Development. I changed degrees to broaden my opportunities but never lost my desire to teach. As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. Teaching is a great joy for me, as it is easy to see I love working with children of all ages. I enjoy the challenge that arises when teaching a group of children that learn in different ways. Understanding that it is important for all to learn, finding creative ways to get points across and bring the students into the topic has always been amazing. Engaging them in the subjects, not just talking to them, motivates them to be more attentive. This method also allows them to see what they know. By not completely depending upon me, they then begin to push themselves.
