A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and working with all children. I believe that virtually all children can learn with the proper motivation and encouragement. My grandchildren do complain that I turn everything into a teaching experience. I am a retired trial lawyer from the State of Maryland. I am a life-long learner with degrees in Zoology & Philosophy, and I was the Valedictorian of my high school. I have 17 years of experience in the IT industry, mostly as a Technical Writer. I have taught in public school (Science for 6th-12th grades), I have tutored in the subjects of reading, writing, math, and science, and I have taught as a substitute in various subjects. More About This Tutor...

As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
