I believe that every student can learn more than they think

I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of institutions, but mostly public schools. I am conversant in Spanish and have a broad range of interests and fields of knowledge, including English literature, Math, History, Science, current events and Politics. I have taught grades 3-12, and have experiences teaching all income levels and socio-economic backgrounds.
I am a laid back type of instructor and use my experience and intuition to create unique learning environments for each student. I have taught and tutored both children and adults in a wide variety of situations, from job training and test preparation to tutoring for a specific subject. I have taught ESL classes and done individual tutoring, as well as both group and one-on-one instruction in grammar and composition. I have tutored for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, TOEIC, ISEE and entrance exams. I have created my own materials for such tutoring but also use books available commercially.
I am interactive and student-centered. I see where the student's strengths lie and build from there. Ten years after I finished high school I decided to begin my collegiate career. The process of learning, re-learning and brushing up on the hard sciences and mathematics has proved to provide a good background from which to explain and help others in those areas. Everyone is different so the first lesson is always about finding the best way to teach that student. The three different ways that people learn are hearing, seeing, and doing but different combinations work better for different children. I believe that all children can meet their potential if they can be taught in an appropriate method. Children should be limited by their own preferences and not by a subject's "difficulty". By finding the proper method a tutor can and should mold their lessons for that method.
