A Little Bit About Me...

I have been playing chess since I was 10 years old. I went to state as a sophomore in High School. I did not do so well my first year at state. My first year at state I only had one win. The next year I had 4 wins and 3 losses. I finished in the top half at state during my junior year.I have won against several opponents who are hard to beat.

I am presently teaching at the College level in the fields of Humanities and Philosophy. I am also tutoring at the tutoring center in Mathematics and the classes I am teaching. I have high expectation for my students and try to push them in order to get the best out of them. I have also being tutoring French (my native language) to a high school student for 2007- 2009. My teaching style consists of finding that unique style that will suit each individual student. Growing up, I noticed that it was very hard for certain students to grasp certain concepts because they were not engaged in the teaching method. It is no secret that everyone learns a certain way, and no two ways are ever the same. I believe that my patience, my calm demeanor, and habit of wanting to make learning something fun rather than a job has certainly helped me in my education. I also am a big proponent of having children set goals for themselves. Setting goals makes you work harder without feeling the pressure, and I've learned that once children reach that goal they will just want to go higher.

A Little Bit About Me...

I first question the students in what they already know to see the areas that need less instruction. Then I ask them problems from their school texts and see how they do. This will give me some knowledge of where the student is failing and the area that needs more support. I then ask them at the session's end if they learned something and how that makes them feel. This is most important because if the student does not feel that they are learning and what the knowledge can be used for, they will loose interest and not pay attention in class. This is why many fail technical courses because unlike other subjects, math and science builds upon itself so if you do not learn the basics first, the next topics will be harder to grasp.
