I worked for one year at the TLC, or Teaching Learning Center, where upper classmen would tutor other students taking courses they had already taken and done quite well in. I tutored mostly computer courses (programming, excel, etc), but there were also days when I was asked to tutor Calculus.
I like to start by encouraging the student to demonstrate what they know, and then give them a little nudge of guidance when they come to something that confuses them. I generally supervise adults and in this role act as teacher for processes, procedures, rules and general good practices. I am a great learner, which I think makes for a great teacher because I want to be sure that whomever I am working with finds the excitement in really understanding a topic. I have a B.S. in Computer Science. I also have 3 years as a substitute teacher as well as 3 in the semiconductor field. I come form a family of educators (mother, uncle, great aunt). I college, I tutored many of my friends in higher mathematics (one of which attained a PhD in Electrical Engineering recently). I also recently did some volunteer work in Michigan tutoring Somalian refugees in Mathematics.
