I have been substitute teaching for 12 years in various subjects with a diverse group of students. I have also been employed as a home bound instructor for students with illness and or discipline matters for 2 years for grades 8-12. I have worked hard to obtain my duel certification in elementary/special education. I can identify and help students with learning disabilities because I myself have a learning disability. Although I myself was considered to be a slow learner and I had (and still have) dyslexia, I never the less taught myself how to study and how to get through high school, college, and graduate school. I can help the students on their own level because I have been there and I know how frustrating it can be to have to study without having the right tools. As I was once a child with a speech impediment, I received many services such as reading and writing and speech therapy throughout my elementary years. I feel it is important to help children and students receive the services they need to succeed as soon as possible. I believe students learn best with hands on experiences and in multiple modalities. In 2006 I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in History and English. In 2008 I received my New York State Teaching Certificate. Starting at the end of 2008 I became a substitute teacher in Liverpool Central Schools and in 2009 for Baldwinsville Central Schools as well. After becoming a substitute teacher I quickly honed many skills in order to be an effective teacher.
