I graduated high school in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.5 gpa and 30 college credits. I then went on to the University of Colorado starting out as a sophomore. My style of teaching includes visual explanation (white board or chalk board), oral discussion, and hands-on manipulation when ever possible. I try to use as many teaching styles as possible as not all students learn via the same means. My style is also fexible based on the student I am instructing (age or handicaps). I believe the best way to teach science is to make it a fun and inquisitive experience.
I hold a BS and MS in Biology. I started to tutor college student while an undergraduate at Mesa State College.I was awarded the GK-12 Fellowship for two years while at the University of Northern Colorado. While earning my bachelor's degree, I worked in several tutoring programs assisting students with reading comprehension and writing composition skills. I taught grammar to small groups, read one-on-one with third graders and assisted junior high school students with their homework assignments. Though my degree is in fine art, I began my undergraduate career as an English major. In high school I took both AP English exams and I went on an honors trip to England to study British literature. Also as a high school senior I took sixth place at the state speech tournament with an oratory that I wrote. From teaching preschoolers how to read to teaching high school students how to survive (and enjoy!) Algebra, I find it rewarding to discover how individual students learn and then help them to succeed in their efforts. I love kids and am able to relate to different age levels and needs. I understand that every child learns differently and has unique strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to be able to teach children fundamental concepts that translate into solving specific problems.
