Chess is one of my top subjects!

I am particularly looking for younger students, ranging from completely new to chess or the beginner looking to make advancements to the next level. I am prepared to offer the student plenty of my time and dedication; I will teach them the rules, standard opening theory, endgame theory, tactical concepts, and of course strategy in the middlegame. I will present them with grandmaster games, and show them the winning logic behind moves. If they wish, I will be glad to review and analyze any games that they played with them and optionally with computer assistance.

Better academics combined with more fun is the goal.

I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.
I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.

My teaching style is predicated on the belief that children truly want to learn. I like to introduce the goal or goals for today. Ask a few questions regarding ysterdays assignment and see if the class will bridg the two by itself. I believe that a class os students wiling to learn need only slight direction each day. I always have a full lesson plan in tow, but i find the class rarely needs me to rely on it. The students' hunger for knowledge always seems to be motivation enough to keep them moving forward through the blackboard jungle.
I have always been a tutor looking back. My friends were always asking for help with their homework. I enjoyed helping them. When their parents learned that I was a godo tutor, I found myself helping my friends' little brothers and sisters with their schoolwork. It made me feel goood inside--- stil does. I guess teaching is in my blood. I enjoyed ... read more

i enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. In order to do that I make use of all resources available to me including: various forms of technology, websites, and ideas from other knowledgable teachers. Every child has their own unique learning style and it is up to the educator to deliver the material in a way that the child can understand the concept and then be able to apply the newly learned material. I have used direct instruction, modeling, large group, partnerships and small cooperative groups in the classroom with success. A Little Bit About Me...

As a substitute teacher I was able to gather teaching perspectives from all levels of teaching. I was quite successful . I told all my students to stop blaming others for a poor academic showing. You all have the ability to succeed. Just consider the learned men and women who reached high levels of success with a self-learned education. Abe Lincoln would be a case in point.

Mostly I prefer relating abstract concepts to everyday life. I believe if a student can parallel course material with events that occur in his or her life then he or she will always remember the concept and have a deeper understanding of it.

A Little Bit About Me...

Well, teaching one or a small group is quite different from teaching large classes. When tutoring, it's especially important to be a good listener and observer, to help pinpoint the student's needs and target areas to strenghten. When I see a student "getting it" (absorbing a new concept or mastering something for the first time) I do feel satisfaction. I do have patience, and I relate well to establish a rapport with students.
