Better academics combined with more fun is the goal.

I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.
I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.

As a former active duty Army soldier and non-commissioned officer with over 20 years experience, I have taught and trained military personnel in various technical fields and specialty areas. I have over 15 years experience as an immediate supervisor and/or mid-level manager of soldiers. I have taught people in a classroom environment, as well as in an outdoor setting.
My preferred teaching style is up front and personal with students. However, I am highly familiar with "online" correspondence, via the computer or internet. I totally believe in having thorough knowledge of the required subject prior to teaching. I also enjoy working with children. I am a father of two young children (ages 10 months and 7 years), and I enjoy taking the time to cultivate their ability to read and comprehend.

After graduation with my BSEE, I have been trying out employment in the Engineering field. My math and physics skills have become the front-runners in my tutoring career. This past summer, I tutored students attending Boston University and Boston College in Allston and Brighton, Massachusetts. The areas of tutoring that I offered were: Math - All calculus, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations. Science - Physics I, II, Statics/Dynamics. Engineering - Circuits, Control Theory (Linear and State-Space), Microprocessors, and C, C++, Verilog programming.
Mostly I prefer relating abstract concepts to everyday life. I believe if a student can parallel course material with events that occur in his or her life then he or she will always remember the concept and have a deeper understanding of it.

I enjoy teaching children the fundamental aspects of any subject, and delight in witnessing the brightening of that child's comprehension of the subject. I am a firm believer that every child harbors their own level of 'genius', and is capable of learning to their maximum potential. I believe every child deserves a chance to achieve at the height of their capability, provided they are given the chances and the educational tools for success in an encouraging, nurturing environment. I hope that the remainder of my career is utilized as the impetus for those achievements.
As a former corporate manager and full-time mother, I received a BA in Theatre Arts and a MSW in Clinical Social Work in hopes of working with children and young adults in low socio-economic environments. I relinquished my job as a clinical social worker, and began tutoring elemenatary-aged students in 2004. I beca ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I entered the teaching field through alternative certification and have since received certification in elementary education and ese k-12. I have attended various training opportunities in both math and science. I am now the lead math teacher for my school.
My teaching style is very relaxed and student driven. I believe that children learn more when they have input in the curriculum. I develop great relationships with my students by showing that I care about them and their lives outside of school. I communicate with parents regularly through class email lists and a class web site. I try to be clear and concise about what I expect and I hold every student to the expectations.

My teaching style is predicated on the belief that children truly want to learn. I like to introduce the goal or goals for today. Ask a few questions regarding ysterdays assignment and see if the class will bridg the two by itself. I believe that a class os students wiling to learn need only slight direction each day. I always have a full lesson plan in tow, but i find the class rarely needs me to rely on it. The students' hunger for knowledge always seems to be motivation enough to keep them moving forward through the blackboard jungle.
I have always been a tutor looking back. My friends were always asking for help with their homework. I enjoyed helping them. When their parents learned that I was a godo tutor, I found myself helping my friends' little brothers and sisters with their schoolwork. It made me feel goood inside--- stil does. I am the son of a teacher and have therefore had the value of a good education as a part of my world view. Both of my parents are also avid readers and critical thinkers and instilled the virtues of scholastic practice. Hence, I embarked on a collegiate career that included 12 years studying philosophy, history, religion, Irish Studies, literature, and finally education. Near the end of this time, I felt that the best use of my talents and experience would be in the classroom helping to build a better society through the young people who cross that threshold. I spent three years in Hawaii and the San Francisco Bay area teaching 7th and 8th grade learning handicapped, emotionally disturbed, and autistic students. through all of these years I have also tutored students ranging from inner city broken homes to Ivy League geared people.
