I have always enjoyed teasing and using humor in teaching all ages of student. I have seen the value of basic, solid math and English skills in the market place and would add basic occupational application to any tutoring environment. My goal in tutoring is to guide the student to gaining confidence in their skills. I have learned through critiquing lyrics online that the best way to tutor is not to rewrite but to suggest alternatives and guide my fellow writer as they rework their lyric. My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. I continue to play in orchestras and teach string instruments privately. I am in the process of completing a Master's degree in Teaching.
