I recently graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education. I student taught at Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota from January to May of 2018 and I have years of experience working with upper aged students from my work with the Boy Scouts of America and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board.
I prefer to use current real world content as a way to demonstrate historical ideas in an easier context to understand. I believe that students benefit more from this type of instruction because it can put difficult concepts in a way that is easier to relate to.

I have a BA in psychology and have worked for 12 years in the mental health field. I am currently working on getting my Elem. Ed teaching license and have completed all the coursework and have completed my pre-clinicals. I am scheduled to do my student teaching this September in a second grade classroom at Taylors Falls Elementary school. I have a BA in English and a Master's and Ph.D. in German (Germanic Linguistics). I have taught English literature as a substitute in junior and senior high schools, college level German, linguistics, English reading and writing and English as a Second language. I have taught and tutored children and adult learners. My teaching experience has been in Germany, California and Minnesota. I also tutored ACT/SAT in Minnesota.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages, individually or in groups. I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved. I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.

With grammar and mechanics, I have found that a directive manner is often the best approach; sometimes, however, students require clarification of ideas and organization, in which case I pose questions and share observations, rather than instruct.
