I recently graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education. I student taught at Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota from January to May of 2018 and I have years of experience working with upper aged students from my work with the Boy Scouts of America and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved. I think students are best served when they can discover these answers for themselves.

I have participated in several tutoring training seminars that have taught me various methods of teaching. First of all, students learn differently and it is important to accommodate to those differences. Therefore, I have learned that teaching involves more than just speaking one on one about the material. I really do place something of a premium on being able to connect with all of my students on an academic and personal level. I believe that this helps them as they know that their teacher and tutor cares about them and their future and, as such, this causes them to grow and excel. I can attest to such things happening with many of my students and for that I am incredibly thankful.
