My comments on tutoring Accounting : I taught accounting at Ohio University and Remington College. I passed the AICPA exam in 1969 (first try). I have four years experience as a CPA with Ernst & Young. I have four years of experience at MPI. I do my own accounting and taxes for my Company.

I have over 15 years as a succesful instructor and tutor (middle school, high school, under graduate and graduate students)of mathematics,computer science (computer programing)and business courses including accounting, finance, statistics,economis, medical dosage calculations, hospital information statistics, etc. I also founded my Company, Alpha Omega Education and Training Systems,Ltd., in 2001. It is a step by step hands on learning that I normally use when the student demonstrates that they have learned the material and can put it to use, I then introduce the next step. They practice until they can do it on their own

I have been teaching at Ohio Business College for the past 4 years. I have taught several accounting courses at the associate degree level. I tutor students that are having difficulty with class material. I also teach students through independent study, where we cover the same material as a regular course, but without a class lecture.
I knew after taking a couple of courses when I went back to graduate school in 2003 that I wanted to go into teaching, at least on a part time basis. A Little Bit About Me...

I like teaching all levels, but prefer teens and adults. My goal is to help the student really understand the subject matter. When possible, I try to use examples that are more relevant to helping the student understand. While I am driven and have done very well in school, some students do not have an aptitude for accounting and may only be taking it for their major. While I would like them to do very well, I will work with them at their level and to the degree they have the interest in putting in the effort to learn and succeed. I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious. My style is based on the fundamentals; you cannot progress unless the basics are understood. Only after understanding the basics can an individual move to a higher level of understanding. I am there to facilitate the basics so that we can move together in understanding more advanced concepts. Those students I had at Bryant & Stratton years ago applauded me for introducing them to the basic understanding of accounting.
