A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to tutoring is to try to be as hands-off as possible. By this I mean that I will not "fix" papers, nor will I write directly on a student's paper if it can be helped. I want to help the student in their problem areas by showing them examples of an area (thesis statement, grammar, citations)that needs improvement and then working with them so that they will know how to address the problem in the future. I also find that often tutors do their best work while acting as "sounding-boards" for their students; listening to the student (as each student has different needs)and then offering suggestions and ideas on how to approach difficulties.

I am a recent college graduate and I am looking for employment within my field. I have two years experience tutoring an elementary student. I worked with a student in second grade and tutored her in both Math and English. Because her mother and I communicated regularly, she was able to tell me of improvements and areas of subjects that needed more attention. I am very enthusiastic about being able to work with students of any age. As a recent college graduate, I feel that I will be able to relate and connect with all ages of students. A Little Bit About Me...

It is my firm belief that if students have the confidence in themselves to believe they can do well, they will succeed. I believe that there is just not one way to teach because there are many different learning style. Teachers must identify their students' learning styles and find ways to incorporate them into the lesson. I agree with Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Some students are auditory learners, while some are visual. Some students are bodily-kinesthetic learners, while some are naturalists. Other students may be interpersonal or intrapersonal learners. Within my classroom and tutoring sessions, I make sure the student(s) know exactly what I expect from them, which is primarly for them to try their hardest. I maintain a caring and nurturing attitude when I teach while at the same time encourage and motivate my students to work hard. I am very patient and enjoy working with students of all ages.
