Experienced teaching students with learning differences

Students learn in a positive learning environment. Everyone is unique thus everyone has unique learning styles. I focus on the positives each student has achieved and then, together the student and I strengthen the areas that need improvements. For example, there has been a recent emphasis on time test for all math operations. Personally, I believe this is testing the student test taking skills more than their math ability. I believe this can cause test anxiety issues. As a substitute teacher, I have reviewed the results of students’ test and made custom flashcards for the few math facts they need to memorize. I put them in an envelope for them with a note to memorize one or two at a time. I suggest placing one at their placemat and the other math flashcard where brush their teeth.

I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. A Little Bit About Me...

I knew after taking a couple of courses when I went back to graduate school in 2003 that I wanted to go into teaching, at least on a part time basis. My daughter is an elementary school teacher, and I felt that I had an influence on her choice of a major. I enjoy seeing students learn.
